Interview with Freddy and Krueger, creators of Tec-9 Brother!

So you thought Freddy Kruger was only famous for his terrible striped sweater and his appearance in horror movies? That’s not even close to the truth! He also makes skins for CS:GO.

Today, we’ll talk about who and why invented Tec-9 Guerilla Warfare!

CS.MONEY here to present a series of interviews with the creators of the best skins ever! And we’ll start with the true heroes whose works are part of the Fracture Case.

– Tell us a little about yourself. Freddy and Krueger — is it a team of two or two faces of one creator?

Hi everyone!

Freddy&Krueger is a team of two 2D and 3D artists.

A lot of people probably want to learn why we opted for these particular nicknames. We wanted to show we are a team, and those nicknames seemed like an interesting and innovative idea to us.

When did you start making skins? Are there any other games except CS that have your skins? What game was the first? And how did you decide that you want to make a game skin?

The first works were published in the Workshop in early August 2017 for the game RUST. Our works for other games were accepted too, but the first add-ons were in RUST, serving as the initial incentive to fully devote ourselves to skinmaking.

For the first 3-4 months, Freddy created skins alone, but at the end of November 2017, we decided to create a team: Freddy & Krueger.

Our first collaboration was for CS:GO it was P90 Filigree, and we were on cloud nine about the result!

–  Do you work alone or enjoy some cooperations with other skinmakers?

Currently, we’re working together. Of course, some artists are inviting us to collaborate, but now we’re busy with our own projects, which mostly require a lot of time to implement. Naturally, we don’t mind working with various artists, we are sure it would be an incredibly interesting experience for us, but so far, we are working alone.

Where do you get the inspiration for your works?

It’s hard to tell, inspiration can come out of nowhere, really.

Generally, the most unique and interesting ideas come spontaneously, as was the case with Five-Seven Buddy — we were just browsing through the Workshop, and then some Five-SeveN caught our eye. We noticed how curious it looks in your hand (in combat), and in just a matter of seconds, it dawned upon us that the top part looks like a helmet and the bottom part looks like a head.

Most of the inspiration is drawn from movies, music, nature, but this list can be continued indefinitely.

Tec-9 Brother

We were happy to see Tec-9 Brother in the new case. What do you think about the Fracture Case at all? Do you have any favorites?

Thank you! In general, we liked the case, it features a lot of cool skins by different artists, it’s great!

As for our favorite skins from the case, we can single out a few authors, but you should understand that this comes down to our opinion and our tastes alone, all skins are great in their own way!

Artist: GENT and his Monstercall.

We loved the way he executed the skin and put his drawing on the weapon! That frightened “jellyfish” on the grip trying to escape from this “mutant shark…”

We also liked the curious feature with the animation of the “jellyfish” that’s really moving and trying to swim away from the shark, which you can see after a shot is fired and the gun is reloaded.

Well done, GENT! Looking forward to seeing more cool and interesting skins by you!

Artist: 2Minds

Tooth Fairy от 2Minds

A very beautiful skin with its own style! A gloomy skin with an equally gloomy tooth fairy — you won’t see her likes in children’s stories or books.

I also liked the composition of the drawing and the color scheme.

Well done, 2Minds! Keep up the good work!

Few words about the Tec-9 Brother. How did you come up with the idea of such design?

Since our Five-Seven Buddy was added to the game, we thought it would be nice if CS:GO featured a (Terrorist) with a similar idea on the back of the weapon.

Five-Seven Buddy

The main criterion by which we chose the weapon to implement this idea on was that the weapon should initially only be possessed by (terrorists), so the most ideal option was Tec-9. One of the cool features was the nose, because there are certain details on the back of the weapon, the nose looks voluminous and the (terrorist) looks more realistic.

The design of the weapon was based on (the terrorist from CS 1.6), and if you look at the side of the gun, you’ll see the whole design and color scheme were taken from the original model.

We are delighted that these two skins featured the game! Huge thanks to the CS:GO development team!

PP-Bizon Exclusion Zone

If it weren’t for CS:GO skins, what do you think you would be doing?

Frankly, we don’t know, but most likely it would involve creativity.

We are grateful to VALVE because they created the Steam Workshop platform, which allowed us to realize ourselves as artists.

One of the coolest things about drawing skins is that we can create what we like.

Negev Fake Blaster

– Do you play CS?

Yes, we sometimes play on public servers or in the Danger Zone where we can have quite a bit of fun ;D

UMP-45 Reincarnation

What is your favourite weapon in CS:GO?

I guess our taste runs to the AK-47.

And what about favourite maps? Do you have one?

Yes, there are such maps, but it’s not from the gameplay perspective that we evaluate them, but rather by how beautiful the map is.

We have a few: Anubis, Santorini, Austria, Dust 2, Subzero.

Are you interested in CS GO tournaments? And what’s your favorite team if you do?

We don’t have a favorite team, but sometimes we watch some interesting matches.

And back to the art. What are your favourite skins of yours?

All our skins are special and favorite, we invested a lot of effort and time to every single one.

But since we can’t single out each of our skins, we’ll single out some:

Glock-18 Exclusive

Glock-18 Exclusive

MAC-10 Deadly Rose

MAC-10 Deadly Rose

Are there some other artists’ skins that you like?

It’s important to understand that there are skins that look simple and unobtrusive, and more often than not, they are not particularly popular among players. Many people may think the creation of such skins only requires a minimum of time, whereas in fact, this kind of work often takes the same amount of time and sometimes even more time and effort.

Here are the skins that we like quite a lot. If we started listing everything, it would take way too much time, so we’ll just single out those works that we remember:

Will we see some easter eggs in your skins?

Not for the time being, no.

P90 Filigree (Silver/Brown)

–  If it was your choice, which of your skins would you add to the next case?

It’s a tricky question, we would actually add all our skins, just like any other artist ;D

It’s very hard to choose just one, but let it be MAC-10 Deadly Rose.

What are your upcoming plans?

To improve ourselves in all respects and continue doing what we like to do: creating interesting skins for CS:GO. If you take an interest in our creations, follow our updates in the Freddy&Krueger workshop!

And not to miss new works, you can subscribe to our group and receive notifications when a new skin is released!

What is your advice to those who want to become an artist?  What advice can you give to those who are just thinking about creating the first skin?

You need to understand that creating skins is not as easy as it might seem to an amateur — if it was indeed that easy, everyone would do it. If you are ready to devote a part of yourself and most of your time to it, you can start creating skins!

The most important things we want to wish to those who are just embarking on their journey as an artist in CS:GO are patience, persistence, and uniqueness of your skins.
