When is it most profitable to trade skins on CS.MONEY?

You have collected numerous skins and want to trade them? While it’s a rather common situation, there are not-so-obvious subtleties to it. Take the release of The Dreams & Nightmares Case. By the way, the items from this treasure trove are already available on our website. And that means you can finally diversify your inventory with brand-new amazing stuff! But what’s the best way to do it?

Today, the CS.MONEY Blog is answering the question: when is the best time to trade and buy skins on CS.MONEY?

New skins & trade hold

When new weapon finishes appear in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, we want them available on the website as soon as possible for our users to buy and trade. During the first week after the removal of the trade hold on new skins, we offer 10% more cash for them than usual.

The trade hold is a Steam restriction imposed on new items in your inventory. As long as it’s valid, you can’t transfer these items to another account. The limit normally lasts 7 days. On the 8th day, you can make trade operations involving these items again.

So if you got items from a new case that you don’t really dig, you can trade them on our platform with a 10% bonus. But remember, the bonus is only valid during the first week after the trade hold was removed, so it’s best to hurry and sell out the new skins that didn’t grow on you as soon as possible.

Black Friday & other events

We robbed Santa for Christmas!

Another great occasion to trade skins is our events, which are regular special offers such as Black Friday. These events bring additional bonuses when buying or trading skins. For instance, during or Christmas event, we offered you to rob Bad Santa.

The terms of the event were simple: add funds to your balance, and you get to participate in giveaways with tons of prizes. There’s no better time to do two things at once: update your collection and participate in giveaways that feature badass weapon finishes. Keep in mind that our events use a number of different mechanics, so make sure you subscribe to our social networks — like Twitter — to stay in the know.

The release of new CS:GO operations

Riptide – one of the latest operations in CS:GO

There’s one curious feature about the prices of skins: they go down after a new operation drops in the game. The reason is simple: players are selling old skins to buy a battle pass for the new operation. A growth of supply obviously decreases the price, so in the first few days after the operation launches, it’s quite profitable to buy skins for yourself or with a view to reselling them after the price settles on the regular value again.

Here’s another, less obvious fact: you can observe similar price fluctuations when new content is released in Dota 2. Often enough, the users who play both games from Valve will sell their weapon finishes to buy a new battle pass. And this, too, serves to briefly lower the prices of in-game items.

Note, however, that this occurs only for some items, not all of them, and not always. Therefore, you should carefully monitor price trends and look for bargains on our platform and the Steam Marketplace.

Periods after Valve’s patches

In small patches, as a rule, new labels are added

Last but not least, here’s a risky option for you: patches from Valve. The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive dev team only tweaks guns once in a blue moon. One or two changes to the game balance over a year are great by the company’s standards.

These patches affect the cost of items. Remember when a few years ago, the developers buffed the SG 553? The gun’s buff caused the price of its looks to increase several times! Then after the nerf, the price plummeted again. The prices of other skins show an analogous dynamic. So whenever you notice the developers have buffed a certain gun in the update, maybe it’s time to invest in a skin for this gun.

To sum it all, it’s always profitable to trade skins on CS.MONEY, but there are times when it can bring you even more profit. Among other things, you can get a bonus by trading a new finish or take a risk by investing into a buffed weapon.
